Shrink-wrapped pallets of finished product stacked in a warehouse aisle

PLAIN LANGUAGE LABELLING — CANADA

June 2028 is a shelf date, not a print date.

June 2028 is a shelf date, not a print date.

Every natural health product sold in Canada must carry a compliant label by 22 June 2028, regardless of when its licence was issued. The deadline applies at retail. A product with a three-year shelf life leaving your facility today will still be on shelf after the date, which means the artwork has to change now rather than in 2027.

WHAT IS REQUIRED

Three changes, one artwork.

Three changes, one artwork.

The modernized requirements introduce a bilingual Product Facts Table carrying medicinal and non-medicinal ingredients, recommended use, dosage, warnings, storage and contact details in a prescribed format, alongside minimum font and legibility specifications and allergen disclosure requirements. On multi-ingredient products and products carrying several risk statements, fitting all of it onto the existing pack is the practical obstacle rather than the regulatory one.

WHERE PROJECTS STALL

It is a design problem before it is a compliance problem.

It is a design problem before it is a compliance problem.

01

The content does not fit

Multi-ingredient formulas and long risk sections routinely exceed the panel space the current pack allows. The options are a format change, a pack change or a reformulation, and each has a different cost.

02

Shelf life runs past the deadline

Stock manufactured well before June 2028 will still be on shelf after it. Transition has to be planned against shelf life, not against the deadline itself.

03

Bilingual requirements compound the space problem

Every element appears twice, in a prescribed structure, with legibility minimums that cannot be solved by reducing point size.

04

SKU count

A brand with thirty products has thirty artwork projects, thirty print runs and thirty inventory positions to sequence. Doing them in the wrong order wastes stock.

WHAT WE DO

SKU by SKU, in the right order.

Product Facts Table construction for each SKU.

Bilingual label review across both panels.

Verification of licence details, claims and permitted wording against the current licence.

Allergen, caution, risk and storage statement review.

Format, font and legibility check against the requirements.

Panel space assessment and options where content does not fit.

Printer-ready markup.

Transition roadmap sequenced against shelf life and existing stock.

WHEN TO START

Work backwards from shelf life.

Work backwards from shelf life.

The correct start date is the deadline minus your longest shelf life minus your artwork and print lead time. For most brands that date has already passed or is close. Products with two and three year shelf lives are the priority, and SKUs due for a reprint anyway are the cheapest place to begin.

Start with the SKUs that reprint first.

Send us the SKU list, the current artwork and your shelf lives. We will tell you what has to change on each pack and the order to work through them.
